Sangster International Airport among areas in St. James reconnected to the JPS’ grid
Electricity has been restored to the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay St James.
This was disclosed by President and Chief Executive Officer of the Jamaica Public Service Hugh Grant at a press conference this morning.
He said other parts of St. James have also been reconnected to the grid.
Mr. Grant said as of today some 300,000 customers, or more than 64% of its clients in parishes including Kingston, St. Andrew, St. Thomas and St. Catherine have power.
He said works are underway in several parishes to restore critical areas.
Regarding western Jamaica, Mr Grant said this is a challenge due to the extent of the devastation.
But he promised that within 2 weeks, power will be returned to Hanover and Westmoreland.
He said areas in Trelawny will have electricity restored this week.
He stated that some areas in St Elizabeth have electricity.
Some 300 linemen have been brought into the country to assist with restoration of power .
Additional vehicles including bucket trucks and pole digging trucks are also expected by the weekend to expedite restoration works.
