Samuda: Kingston & St Andrew will be water resilient & drought resistant in 18 months

Kingston and St. Andrew will be water-resilient and drought-resistant in 18 months.

Minister of Water Matthew Samuda made the disclosure during a Leaders in Real Estate breakfast in Kingston this morning.

Mr. Samuda said his declaration is backed by a suite of solid investments already in motion.

The water plant being established in Content, St. Catherine is part of the resilient and resistant strategy.

The plant should begin operation in May 2027.

Despite all the work being done, the Minister said Kingston and St. Andrew, as well as Portmore, St. Catherine, have non-revenue water of 40%.

Non-revenue water is either leaked or stolen.

Mr. Samuda said the Government is working with the World Bank to get a non-revenue water partner and it is anticipated that a contractor will be appointed sometime this year.
