Rusheen Mcdonald grabs bronze in Men’s 400metres final at World Indoor Championship
National record holder Rusheen Mcdonald and World Championships finalist Carey Mcleod were bronze medal winners today at the at the World Indoor Track and Field Championships in Glasgow Scotland as Jamaica closed day 2 with three medals overall……………and 17th on the medal table.
Mcdonald produced anotther personal best on his way to 3rd place in the mens 400 metres where he clocked 45.65 seconds as the norwegian star Karston Warholm with a season best 45.34 was surprised by the Belgian Alexander Doom for the gold with a national record 45.25 seconds
Carey Mcleod claimed bronze in the mens long jump in the morning session with a season best effort of 8.21 metres
Mcleod finish behind world champion Miltiadis Tentoglou of Greece who won the gold medal with a leap measuring 8.22 metres……….the same distance for Mattia Furlani of Itally who secured the silver medal.
Meanwhile Briana Williams and Sashalee Forbes failed to get past the semi-finals of the Womens 60 metres event leaving Jamaica with no representation in the final.
Williams clocked 7.19 seconds for 4th in her semi-final while Forbes was 5th in her event in 7.15 seconds.
Former St Catherine High, St Lucian Athlete Julian Alfred captured the goal medal in a world leading 6.09 seconds, getting the better of the Polish star Ewa Swaboda who posted 7 seconds flat
Earlier Natoya Goule-Toppin crashed out of the women’s 800 metres after placing at the back of the field in her semi-final in a time of 2-minutes-01.41 seconds
Damion Thomas and Tyler Mason missed out on making progress in the men’s 60 metre hurdles this morning .
Thomas was 6th in his heat in 7.73 seconds and mason placed 6th as well in his event in 7.86 seconds
The American Grant Halloway later mined gold in the event equalling the championship record of 7.29 seconds.
Femke Bol of the Netherlands highlighted the day with a world record breaking performance in the womens 400 metr final where she posted a stunning 49.17 seconds
Tomorrows final day will see Kimberley Williams contesting the womens triple jump final, Megan Tapper in the first round of the womens 60 metre hurdles and Tissana Hickling in the Womens long jump final.
The womens 4 by 400 metres relay team will also be in action in the preliminary round of the event
