Rudolph Speid Appointed Reggae Boyz Head Coach for Intercontinental Playoffs

Rudolph Speid has been appointed head coach of Jamaica’s senior men’s football team for next year’s Intercontinental Playoffs in Mexico.

The confirmation came Friday in a press release issued by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) following a meeting of its board.

“Following the Board’s deliberations, Mr. Rudolph Speid has been appointed to assume the role of Head Coach effective December 15, 2025, until March 31, 2026, while we are in discussions with Mr. Miguel Coley’s agent to serve as Assistant Coach,” the JFF said.

According to the release, the temporary appointments are intended to “ensure continuity in the team’s preparation and performance as the Federation continues to finalize the necessary logistical and administrative arrangements.”

Speid, who was seen as the frontrunner to succeed Steve McClaren, steps into the role after a dominant run in local football. He captured the Jamaica Premier League title three times in the past five seasons and finished as runner-up in the 2022–23 campaign. He also guided Cavalier to the Caribbean Cup crown in 2024, a year after finishing second in the regional competition.

McClaren resigned on Tuesday after Jamaica failed to secure automatic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following a goalless draw with Curaçao in their final Group B qualifier at the National Stadium.

Playoff Schedule Set

Jamaica will face New Caledonia on March 26, 2026, at Estadio Akron in Guadalajara. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. Mexico time (9 p.m. Jamaica time).

Should the Reggae Boyz advance, they will meet DR Congo in the final at the same venue on March 31, 2026. That match is scheduled for 3 p.m. Mexico time (4 p.m. Jamaica time).
