Romelda Aiken-George delivers outstanding performance for Adelaide Thuderbirds in Suncorp Netball League
Veteran Sunshine Girls shooter Romelda Aiken-George had another outstanding game, scoring a game high 39 goals from 43 attempts, to lead defending champions Adelaide Thunderbirds to a 67-41 win over newcomers Melbourne Mavericks. A result that saw Adelaide go second on the table after 11 rounds in the Suncorp Super Netball League.
Aiken-George who also grabbed 4 rebounds was aided on the defensive end by reigning MVP Shamera Sterling-Humphrey who compiled 6 intercepts and 10 gains and Latanya Wilson who finished with 1 rebound, 1 intercept and 5 gains.
Jamaican Shimona Jok (formerly Nelson) had a team-high 25 from 28 shots in a losing cause for the Mavericks.
Elsewhere Jhaniele Fowler-Nemhard scored a game-high 57 goals while Shanice Beckford went 4/5 but were unable to prevent the West Coast fever from suffering a shock 78-70 loss on the road against the Queensland Firebirds.
The Fever with the result dropped to third on goal percentage behind the Thunderbirds with both teams on 32 points. Melbourne Vixens are out in front on 36 points.
