Ricketts leads Jamaican charge at Grand Prix Brescia in Italy

Olympic silver medallist Shanieka Ricketts delivered Jamaica’s top performance at Tuesday’s World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze Level event, the Grand Prix Brescia in Italy, with a strong showing in the women’s triple jump.

Ricketts landed a best mark of 14.56 metres, which earned her third place behind Cuba’s Leyanis Pérez Hernández, who claimed victory with a leap of 14.92 metres. Fellow Jamaican Kimberley Williams also featured in the event, finishing sixth with a jump of 13.66 metres.

In the women’s high jump, Lamara Distin cleared 1.88 metres to finish fifth, in a competition won by Eleanor Patterson of Australia with 1.97 metres.

On the track, Krystal Sloley posted 11.17 seconds in the women’s 100 metres, securing fourth place behind Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith of the Ivory Coast, who blazed to victory in 10.92 seconds. In the women’s 200 metres, Briana Williams finished sixth in 23.73 seconds.

In the men’s events, Zandrion Barnes clocked 46.11 seconds to place seventh in the 400 metres, while Michael Campbell ran a 10.18 seconds to finish third in the men’s 100 metre B race.
