Ricketts and Pryce strike gold as Jamaica shines on final day of NACAC Championships

Olympic silver medallist Shaneika Ricketts and national record holder Nickisha Pryce delivered standout performances as Jamaica wrapped up its campaign at the NACAC Championships in the Bahamas on a golden note on Sunday.

The Jamaicans, who started the day with 18 medals, added six more—including four gold—to close with 24 overall: 10 gold, six silver, and eight bronze.

Pryce set the tone early, storming to victory in the women’s 400 metres with a winning time of 49.95 seconds.

In the men’s equivalent, fellow national record holder Rusheen McDonald claimed silver in 45.04 seconds, while Delano Kennedy finished fifth in 45.37 seconds.

Ricketts then followed up with another highlight, producing a leap of 14.23 metres to capture the women’s triple jump title.

The medal chase began in the morning session with Elvis Graham securing bronze in the men’s javelin throw with a mark of 76.69 metres. In other field events, Raymond Richards was fifth in the men’s high jump with 2.18 metres, and Loydrica Cameron also placed fifth in the women’s shot put at 17.77 metres.

On the track, Jamaica closed in style with success in the relays. The men’s 4x400m team of Bovel McPherson, Zandrion Barnes, Delano Kennedy, and Rusheen McDonald struck gold in 3:02.86 seconds. In the men’s 4x100m relay, the quartet of Ashanie Smith, Kadrian Goldson, Ryiem Forde, and Christopher Taylor clocked 38.53 seconds to secure silver behind Canada.
