Residents want Bog Walk Gorge to be transformed into a tourist attraction
Discussions are underway to determine if the Bog Walk Gorge in St. Catherine can be transformed into a tourist attraction.
Speaking with IRIE FM News, President of advocates group ‘Friends of the Rio Cobre’ Kestonard Gordon says a proposal was made to the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo) to have the area developed for rafting activities.
Mr. Gordon explains that following an examination of the proposition, TPDCo suggested several recommendations, which must be implemented before the Bog Walk Gorge can be considered for tourism.
He says efforts are being made to implement the recommendations.
Mr. Gordon notes, however, that oil spills and other pollution incidents which have been plaguing the Rio Cobre over the years, must stop if the move to develop the Gorge into a tourism product is to materialize.
