Residents of Sheffield in Westmoreland and Hart Hill in Portland protest lack of electricity, almost 2 weeks following Hurricane Beryl’s passage

Several residents of Sheffield in Westmoreland and Hart Hill, Portland mounted roadblocks this morning as they protested the lack of electricity, following the passage of Hurricane Beryl.

The residents say they have been without power for almost two weeks.

They are calling on the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) to fast-track restoration efforts.

IRIE FM news understands that residents used debris and downed trees to block roadways in both parishes.

Head of the Westmoreland police, Superintendent Othneil Dobson said his team responded to the incident in Sheffield and efforts were being made to clear the affected roads.

Meantime, in Portland, one resident whose power is yet to be restored, said while he understands the plight of the citizens, blocking roads is counterproductive.

However, he is calling on JPS to work quickly as the delayed power restoration poses a challenge.
