Residents of Cumberland, St. Catherine dissatisfied with lack of effective communication by NWC regarding water disruptions

Several residents of Cumberland, St. Catherine have expressed dissatisfaction with what they say is the lack of effective communication by the National Water Commission regarding disruptions to their supply.

The residents, who have been without water since Wednesday are upset that they were not adequately informed of the disruption.

They are also frustrated that they are still without water, despite being told that their supply would be restored last evening.

On Tuesday, the Commission posted to its social media pages that the water supply would be temporarily disrupted in some sections of Portmore, St. Catherine from 11 PM, Wednesday to noon Friday.

The Commission also posted reminders on Wednesday and Thursday.

In an update yesterday, the water company said customers have started receiving a gradual restoration of their supply.

However, one Cumberland resident told IRIE FM news this morning that despite that declaration by the Commission, persons in her community are still waiting for water.

She explained that though she has a tank, she did not have the opportunity to adequately prepare for the disruption, due to the lack of effective communication.

Another community resident is suggesting that in addition to posting notifications to social media pages, the Commission should send text messages to inform older customers.
