Renewed call for establishment of a specialised court to treat with gang trials

The call for the establishment of a specialised court to treat with gang trials was re-emphasised today at the opening of the Hilary term of  the Home Circuit court.

The trial of alleged Clansman gang leader Tesha Miller and over 20 co-defendants  was expected to start today.

It has been adjourned until  Friday.

Speaking at this morning’s opening ceremony, puisne judge Justice Dale Palmer highlighted the significant logistics and security concerns associated with the gang trial.

He pointed out that the trial has caused a shifting of court resources and has also affected other matters before the court.

He noted that having a specialised court for these matters would help resolve the challenges.

Citing the substantial list of matters for this term, Justice Palmer urged staff, attorneys and others to make the best use of court resources.
