Rehabilitation of Cornwall Regional Hospital may be completed by September 2026, 5 months later than previous deadline

The rehabilitation of the Cornwall Regional Hospital in St. James is contractually scheduled to be completed by April next year, but the quantity of work being conducted may push that timeline to September 2026.

Consultant project manager for the rehabilitation of the facility, Vivian Gordon, gave the update during a tour by the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce yesterday.

Mr. Gordon told reporters that the works are progressing well, but there are challenges to overcome.

He said some of those hurdles include the removal of a decommissioned underground storage tank, which housed bunker fuel to run the facility’s broiler.

He said medical and non-medical rehabilitative works are being conducted.

Meanwhile, First Vice President of the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce Paulette Neil said the Chamber will keep the Ministry of Health and Wellness accountable as it relates to the projected completion timeline.
