Reggae Girlz goalkeeper Rebecca Spencer signs permanent deal with Chelsea
Chelsea FC Women have announced that Jamaica international goalkeeper Rebecca Spencer has completed a permanent move to the club, following a successful loan spell from Tottenham Hotspur.
Spencer, 34, spent the final three months of the 2024/25 season at Chelsea, where she returned to familiar surroundings to provide crucial cover for Hannah Hampton after injuries to Femke Liefting and the pregnancy of Zecira Musovic left the Blues short on goalkeeping options.
Having previously represented Chelsea between 2016 and 2018, Spencer made an immediate impact upon her return. Though largely serving as backup, she was a vital presence in the squad and was on the bench for all but two of the club’s remaining Women’s Super League fixtures. Her experience and leadership helped steady the squad as Chelsea went on to secure a historic domestic treble.
Now, ahead of the 2025/26 season, Chelsea have moved to make Spencer’s stay permanent. The Reggae Girlz star has signed a one-year contract with the West London club, with the option to extend through to 2027.
Since making her international debut for Jamaica in 2021, Spencer has earned 19 caps, becoming a key figure for the Reggae Girlz and was part of the team that created history by advancing to the second round at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
