Reggae girl striker Cheyna Matthews, will official retire from soccer on Sunday.
The 29 year old Chicago Red Stars forward, who was a member of the historic Reggae Girls team that advanced to the knockout rounds of the 2023 women’s World Cup, will retire from professional soccer following the team’s match against OL reign on October 15.
A Georgia native, Matthews, a Florida State alum, and who is married to San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jordan Matthews, began her career in 2016 with the Washington spirit before joining Racing Louisville fc in 2021.
Known for her energy and impactful performances, Matthews will be celebrated by the red stars before the match, with fans encouraged to leave messages for her.
in her eight-year career, she has played 87 matches, scoring 13 goals and providing 4 assists.
The Jamaica Football Federation has also expressed their gratitude for her contribution to Jamaica’s women’s programme.
