Reggae Girl Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw nominated for The Best Fifa Women’s Player of the Year award
Reggae Girlz striker Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw is among a group of sixteen players nominated for The Best Fifa Women’s Player of the Year award.
Shaw, who will suit up for Jamaica in the first of a two friendly internationals against South Africa on Friday, was selected after a stand-out campaign for Manchester City in the Barclays Women’s Super League that saw her claiming numerous awards including Player of the Season, Golden Boot, PFA Players’ Player of the Year and English Football Writers’ Association Women’s Footballer of the Year as well as being named to English Women’s Super League Team of the Year.
The sixteen nominated candidates includes the England trio Keira Walsh (Barcelona), Lucy Bronze (Barcelona/Chelsea) and Lauren Hemp who is Shaw’s teammate at Manchester City.
The list also features five Americans Lindsey Horan (Olympique Lyonnais), Naomi Girma (San Diego Wave), Mallory Swanson (Chicago Red Stars), Sophia Smith (Portland Thorns) and Trinity Rodman (Washington Spirit).
Spain is the second best represented country with four nominees Aitana Bonmati (Barcelona), Mariona Caldentey (Barcelona/Arsenal), Ona Batlle (Barcelona) and Salma Paralluelo (Barcelona).
Completing the list are Tabitha Chawinga (Malawi), Paris Saint-Germain/Olympique Lyonnais, Barbra Banda (Zambia), Shanghai Shengli/Orlando Pride and Caroline Graham Hansen (Norway), Barcelona.
The eleven players short-listed for The Best Fifa Men’s Award includes Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri, Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, Vinicus Jr, Lamine Yamal and Jude Belingham.
It also features Dani Carvajal, Federico Valverde, Florian Wirtz and Toni Kroos (Germany), Real Madrid (now retired).
Other award categories includes The Best FIFA Men’s Coach, The Best FIFA Women’s Coach, The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper and The Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper.
Additionally a new FIFA Marta Award, named after Brazil great Marta, has been added to celebrate the best goal in women’s football.
