Reggae Boyz to open 2025 with friendly internationals against Trinidad and Tobago

The Jamaica national senior men’s football team will kick-start their 2025 campaign with a pair of exciting friendly internationals against Caribbean rivals Trinidad and Tobago.

The matches are set to take place on home soil, with the first encounter scheduled for February 6 at the Montego Bay Sports Complex in Catherine Hall at 7:30pm while the second fixture is on February 9 at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex in Kingston at 8pm.

These games mark an important moment for the Reggae Boyz with head coach Steve McClaren seeking to build momentum and with both Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago using these games as preparation for the CONCACAF Gold Cup Prelims which is slated for March.

The Reggae Boyz will face St. Vincent and the Grenadines for a spot in the Group stages of the Gold Cup while the Soca Warriors will face Cuba.

The last time these two teams met was in March 2024, in Trinidad, where Jamaica emerged victorious in the first of their two encounters. A 58th-minute strike from Kaheem Dixon secured a narrow but important 1-0 win for the Reggae Boyz at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on March 1. The second match, played two days later at the Larry Gomes Stadium, saw the teams share the spoils in a goalless draw.

Currently ranked 62nd in the FIFA rankings, Jamaica will be looking to continue their rise on the global stage as they face off against Trinidad and Tobago, who sit at 102nd.

President of the Jamaica Football Federation Mr. Michael Ricketts spoke about the importance
of these fixtures.

“ Our Head Coach Mr. McClaren expressed from last year a desire for an opportunity to analyze
the domestic based players on the island and we have worked assiduously to arrange these
fixtures and camps which will take place leading into these games.” Ricketts said.

This is the 3rd year in a row we have kicked off with games vs Trinidad and each year has been beneficial. 2023 prepared us for the Gold Cup and Nations League campaigns while last year we saw how useful this was ahead of the Nations League and the World Cup Qualifiers. This year is no different as Coach
McClaren and the technical staff fine tune preparations for the World Cup Qualifiers which
resume in June.”
