Reggae Boyz suffer early setback with narrow defeat to Guatemala in Gold Cup opener

Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz face an early hurdle in their quest to reach the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Gold Cup after a 1-0 loss to Group C rivals Guatemala at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

The lone goal of the match came in the 32nd minute when midfielder Oscar Santis found the net, handing Guatemala a crucial victory in the tournament opener.

The result leaves Jamaica at the bottom of Group C with no points, while Guatemala climbs to the top with 3 points. However, they sit second on goal difference behind Panama, who dominated Guadeloupe 5-2 earlier in the double-header.

The Reggae Boyz will look to bounce back quickly when they face Guadeloupe at PayPal Park In San Jose on Friday. Their final group match is set against Panama on June 24 at the Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas.

Meanwhile, the Gold Cup action continues on Tuesday with Group B matches featuring Curacao vs El Salvador and Canada vs Honduras.
