Reggae Boyz secure spot in 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup
Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz have officially cemented their place in the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup, securing a 3-0 victory over St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the preliminary round’s second-leg encounter at Sabina Park. The decisive result ensures Jamaica’s 14th appearance at the Confederation’s flagship men’s national team competition.
The match, played on home soil in Kingston, saw goals from Warner Brown and Renaldo Cephas, along with an own goal by St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ Andrew Johnson, sealing Jamaica’s spot in the tournament. Brown, who was getting his first in Jamaican colours, opened the scoring in the 27th minute with a composed finish that gave the home side a 1-0 lead at halftime. His effort was a dream start for the Reggae Boyz, who made three changes to the starting XI from the previous match that ended 1-1 at Arnos Vale.
Jamaica’s advantage was doubled in the second half when Johnson inadvertently put the ball into his own net. The own goal came after an attempted clearance in the 89th minute, which saw the ball deflect off Johnson and over the head of goalkeeper Lemus Christopher, handing Jamaica a 2-0 lead.
Renaldo Cephas added a third goal in the 4th minute of injury time, ensuring a dominant 3-0 victory for Jamaica on the night and a 3-1 aggregate score over the two-legged tie.
With the win, the Reggae Boys secured their place in the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup, scheduled to begin on June 14 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The 18th edition of the Gold Cup will see 16 teams competing across 14 stadiums and 11 metropolitan areas in the United States and Canada. The tournament will feature a group stage followed by three rounds of knockout play, culminating in the final on Sunday, July 6, at NRG Stadium in Houston.
