Reggae Boyz draw New Caledonia in World Cup Playoff opener

Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz will begin their final push toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a playoff semi-final against 149th-ranked New Caledonia next March in Mexico.

The matchup was confirmed this morning after the official intercontinental playoff draw at FIFA headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland, where Jamaica was placed in Pathway One.

A victory over New Caledonia would set up a decisive showdown with the Democratic Republic of Congo in the Pathway One final, with the winner securing a coveted berth at the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Suriname, the second Concacaf representative in the intercontinental playoffs, landed in Pathway Two. They will face Bolivia in their semi-final, with the winner advancing to meet Iraq for a place at the finals. The champions of Pathway One and Pathway Two will join the four teams that emerge from Europe’s playoff system, completing the 48-team field alongside the 42 nations already qualified.

Guadalajara and Monterrey have been selected as the host cities for the FIFA World Cup 2026 Play-Off Tournament, which is scheduled to be contested in the two Mexican cities between March 23 and 31.
