Reggae Boys beat Guatemala in Concacaf Nations League A opener

Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz, playing in front of FIFA President Gianni Infantino, secured an exciting come-from-behind 3-2 win over Guatemala in their CONCACAF Nations League Group B, League A opener at the National Stadium last night.

The victory was secured through a stoppage-time goal from substitute Renaldo Cephas, helping the Reggae Boyz secure all three points and move to third in the standings.

Oscar Santis put the visitors in front after just two minutes, stunning the Reggae Boyz before Kasey Palmer slipped the ball under the advancing Guatemalan goalkeeper, Kenderson Navarro, to pull Jamaica level in the 37th minute.

On the resumption, Queens Park Rangers striker Rumarn Burrell put Jamaica back in front with a superb strike in the 53rd minute.

However, Guatemala came roaring back through Santis, who scored his second goal of the night to level the contest at 2-2 in the 67th minute.

Cephas, who plies his trade for Qarabag FC in Azerbaijan, then found the winner in added time.

Meanwhile, Reggae Boyz head coach Rudolph Speid gave his assessment at the post-match press conference.

Jamaica will tackle Honduras on Monday in their next CONCACAF Nations League assignment at the National Stadium.

Meanwhile, in other matches last night, also in Group B, Suriname edged Honduras 3-2, while El Salvador disposed of Martinique 3-1.

In Group A of League A, Curaçao delivered a superb comeback, rallying from 3-0 down at halftime to outscore Costa Rica 4-3.

Curaçao scored four goals in 20 minutes to complete a stunning resurrection.

The Dominican Republic also secured an exciting 3-2 win over Nicaragua.

In League B, Cuba blanked Grenada 3-0, Barbados scored a 2-0 triumph over Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis clipped Bonaire 2-1, and Guadeloupe squeezed past Bermuda 2-1.
