Raymond Richards wins bronze at World Indoor Championship in China

Jamaica secured its first medal at the ongoing World Athletics World Indoor Championship in Nanjing, China. 

This after Raymond Richards won bronze in the Men’s High Jump, where he cleared the bar at 2.28 meters in the evening session on day one. 

The event was won by South Korea’s Sang Yeok-Woo in a season best 2.31 metres. 

The other Jamaican Romaine Beckford was 9th in 2.14 metres. 

Apart from the bronze medal , the other promising performance on the day was over in the Men’s Triple Jump, where Jordan Scott finished just outside the podium places after ending up 4th courtesy of a leap measuring 17.10 metres, while Lioydrica Cameron was a 13th place finisher in the  women’s Shot Put final with an effort measuring 17.43 meters. 

Meanwhile on the track, Rohan Watson finished fifth in the men’s 60 metres final, where he crossed the line in 6.59 seconds. 

The race was won by Jeremiah Azu of Britain in a personal best 6.49 seconds. 

National record holder Rusheen Mcdonald missed a spot in the final of the men’s 400 meters, after finishing fifth in semi-final one in 47.22 seconds. 

In the women’s equivalent Leah Anderson and Joanne Reid did not advance from their heats. 

Anderson was fourth in heat two in 52.86 seconds, while reid did not start in heat one. 

Fresh from their NCAA Division One Outdoor Championship outing last weekend, Demario Prince and Jerome Campbell will be in action in the 60 Metres Hurdles, in the morning session on Saturday. 

Prince wll be the first on track in in heat one while Campbell who won silver will last weekend will race in heat three. 

Jodean Williams will race in heat two of the Women’s 60 Meters and Natasha Morrison will compete in heat five.
