Rain disrupts Regional Women’s T20 Blaze as Jamaica suffers defeat to Leeward Islands
The third-round Regional Women’s T20 Blaze clash between defending champions Jamaica and the Leeward Islands at Arnos Vale in St. Vincent, was heavily impacted by adverse weather conditions, resulting in an 8-wicket defeat for the Jamaicans via the Duckworth-Lewis method.
Sent in to bat, Jamaica faced an unfortunate setback when the rain intervened just 0.3 overs into their innings, with the team on 4 without loss. After the delay, the game resumed, and Jamaica managed to reach 48 for 2 in their allotted 5 overs. Chinelle Henry led the charge with an impressive 29 not out from 18 balls, while Chedean Nation remained unbeaten on 11 from 7 balls. However, the team struggled early on with Rashada Williams dismissed for just 3 by Shawnisha Hector, and Jodian Morgan was run out without scoring.
Chasing a revised target of 49, the Leeward Islands wasted no time in their pursuit. Qiana Joseph put on a dominant display, blasting 3 fours and 3 sixes as she raced to an impressive 43 not out from just 19 deliveries. The Leewards reached 52 for 2 in 4.2 overs, comfortably securing the victory.
Chinelle Henry was the standout performer with the ball for Jamaica, taking 1 for 23, with the other wicket coming via a run-out.
This loss marks back-to-back defeats for the Rashada Williams-led Jamaican side, who were also defeated by Trinidad and Tobago over the weekend. Jamaica will look to bounce back when they face Barbados on Wednesday, while the Leeward Islands will take on the Windward Islands in their next match.
Final Scores:
Jamaica: 48/2 (5 overs)
Leeward Islands: 52/2 (4.2 overs)
