Public sector teachers to receive new salary rates today
Public sector teachers, as well as principals and vice principals, will start receiving their retroactive payments and new salary rates by the end of the work day, today (March 21).
This follows the Jamaica Teachers’ Association, JTA‘s acceptance of the government’s offer under the revised compensation package and the signing of a memorandum of understanding to this effect on March 13.
The education ministry notes that the payments will continue through to Thursday, March 23.
This means that for this month’s pay cycle, teachers will receive their retroactive payments as well as the agreed new rates.
The ministry notes, that it has been working in collaboration with the transformation implementation unit of the ministry of finance and public service to ensure that all 25,000 teachers are paid between March 21 and 23.
In the event that teachers need clarification on their payments and related matters, the ministry will be hosting a zoom meeting between 1:00 and 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, to answer queries.
The education minister, senior officers from the central ministry and regional offices, as well as technocrats from the ministry of finance will participate in the meeting.
