Public sector teachers to be paid increments this month, JTA pleased
Public sector teachers will be paid their increments, effective this month.
The increments will be paid according to a schedule agreed between the government and the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions, (JCTU), to include the Jamaica Teachers’ Association, (JTA).
In a statement, the JTA explained that persons who were employed before March 31, 2022, or during the period April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2025, will receive three increments.
While, persons who were employed during the period April 1, 2023 through to March 31, 2025, will receive two increments.
Persons who were employed during the period April 1, 2024 through to March 31, 2025, will receive one increment.
The payment is not retroactive and is due only to persons currently employed.
JTA President Dr Mark Smith described the move as a win for teachers.
