Public dental surgeons remain off the job

Scores of dental surgeons who work in the island‘s public health sector, remain off the job.

On Monday, the surgeons staged a sickout over compensation related issues, as wage negotiations with their union, and the ministries of finance and health are reportedly, not going well.

Speaking with Irie Fm news on Tuesday morning, President of the Jamaica Association of Public Dental Surgeons, (Japden) Dr. Vanessa Kiffin, said she feels as though there is a bias against her group.

She said there has been a take it or leave it approach when they meet with the finance ministry.

She pointed out, that the current package has affected their ability to travel, which she says is vital to their job description.

According to Dr. Kiffin, the dental surgeons are not only protesting for themselves, but for the health of the public.

She said the industrial action will continue until a meeting is convened with the finance ministry.
