Head of the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB), Assistant Commissioner Gary McKenzie is refuting claims that lack of road signs, markings and proper roads are the causes of the  majority of fatal collisions. 

ACP McKenzie argues that the irresponsible actions of road users result in a number of fatal collisions. 

Up to Tuesday 247 people died in road crashes.

ACP McKenzie points to Monday’s fatal crash in Manchester which left a grade 6 student dead and his mother, a constable hospitalised.

Police say the driver of a Range Rover overtook a line of traffic and crashed into a honda fit going in the opposite direction, with the constable and her son aboard. 

The PSTEB Head says that incident is a stark reminder of the irresponsible actions of motorists. 

He notes that while many argue that the island’s roads are not fit for traversing, reports have shown that many crashes occur on major thoroughfares. 

He is calling on citizens to fix their actions before casting blame on the state of the roads.
