President of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association, Dr. Mark Smith, says issues impacting teacher remuneration and conditions of service must be addressed if the Government is serious about transforming Jamaica into a knowledge-based economy.

He states that this requires the provision of highly competitive salaries when compared to other professions.

Dr. Smith explains that this would lead to the retention of the smartest and most committed teachers.
