Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has reaffirmed Jamaica’s commitment to action relating to climate change, while calling on the international community to do more.
Dr. Holness was speaking yesterday at the United Nation’s General Assembly Climate Summit, in the United States.
He noted that for Jamaica, like other small island developing states, climate change is a lived reality.
The impacts include stronger hurricanes, longer droughts and floods.
He pointed out that Jamaica has taken steps to mitigate the effects of climate change to include improving energy efficiency, and restoring vital ecosystems.
Dr. Holness said by 2035, Jamaica aims for emission reductions between 26% and 41.7%.
