The preliminary results of today’s 4 by-elections are expected by about 7 o’clock this evening.

The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) said the polls closed at 5:00 p.m. and counting is being done by the returning officers in the respective areas.

The EOJ said the voter turnout was low for the by-elections in the municipal divisions of Morant Bay in St. Thomas and Aenon Town in Clarendon, as well as the Trelawny Southern and St. Andrew North Western constituencies.

As at 2:00 p.m. the turnout ranged from 4.91% to 39.88%.

Director of Elections Glaspole Brown said there were some minor issues with vote time due to issues with electors’ identification.
