Portmore Mayor Leon Thomas interviewed by police today over scuffle at February meeting at Municipal Corporation

Portmore Mayor Leon Thomas was interviewed by the police today in relation to an incident at the Municipal Corporation earlier this year.

The meeting, which was held in February, facilitated a public consultation over the move to make Portmore, Jamaica’s fifteenth parish.

The move has caused some disquiet among several members of the public.

That unease was brought to the fore at the February public consultation which ended abruptly following a scuffle between supporters of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and the People’s National Party (PNP).

A video of the commotion was circulated on social media.

Mayor Thomas who is a part of the PNP, and the JLP’s Alando Terrelonge, who is the Member of Parliament for St. Catherine East Central, released statements soon after the incident, with each shifting blame to the other Party.

Speaking with IRIE FM News this afternoon, Opposition Spokesman with responsibility for matters concerning Portmore, Fitz Jackson said Mayor Thomas was not arrested but was called in by the police to tell his side of the story.
