A policeman remains hospitalized after he was accidentally shot and wounded by a colleague on Saturday.

The lawmen were reportedly conducting spot checks along the AGR Byfield Highway in St. Ann’s Bay, St. Ann.

IRIE FM News understands the officer was shot in the thigh.

Reports are that at approximately 6: 30 PM, officers stopped a motorcar which was being driven in a dangerous and reckless manner.

A man alighted from the car and opened fire at the lawmen. The fire was returned, but the gunman escaped.

Two other men who were in the car were apprehended.

During the incident, a policeman’s weapon accidentally discharged, wounding his colleague.

The wounded cop was taken to the hospital for treatment.
