Police searching for escapee from Tamarind Farm Adult Correctional Centre
Police are searching for an inmate who escaped from the Tamarind Farm Adult Correctional Centre in St. Catherine on Thursday.
He is Nathan Whitter, otherwise known as “Nathe” and “Kemar”.
It was reported by an officer at the institution that at approximately 9:50 a.m., Whitter escaped from a group of 12 inmates who were working on the farm.
Police say he was seen running towards the main road, and the officers on the ground gave chase. However, Whitter eluded the correctional officers.
He was incarcerated for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and sentenced to four years for the offences.
The escapee is known to frequent Orange Hill and Brown’s Town in St. Ann, Spanish Town Road in Kingston and port maria, St. Mary.
The Department of Correctional Services is collaborating with the Jamaica Constabulary Force to find the escapee and is seeking the public’s assistance to aid in his recapture.
Meanwhile, the police are reminding members of the public that it is a criminal offence to harbour fugitives.
