Police report 30.7% reduction in murders
There is a 30.7% reduction in murders.
According to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), 158 murders were recorded up to Saturday, March 15, 70 fewer than the 228 recorded in the same period last year.
The St. Andrew South Division had the highest number of murders with 24, followed by St. Catherine South with 18.
St. Elizabeth saw the least murders with 1.
The JCF is also reporting that cases of rape declined by 66 and robberies by 22.
Meanwhile, break-ins increased by 39.
And the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce, JCC, has welcomed the 30.7 per cent reduction in murders.
President Phillip Ramson said this remarkable achievement underscores the impact of sustained collaboration, strategic investments in national security, and the unwavering commitment of all stakeholders involved in tackling crime.
Noting that crime is the number one concern for Jamaican businesses, he said the reduction in murders is good news.
