Police recover bodies of two people washed away by flood waters in St. Catherine on Tuesday
Police have recovered bodies believed to be those of a man and a woman who were washed away in flood waters on Tuesday in Lluidas Vale, St. Catherine.
The identities of the deceased have not yet been released.
Head of the St. Catherine North Police Superintendent Hopton Nicholson said at approximately 1:00 P.M., today the missing vehicle was recovered from muddy waters with the occupants locked inside.
He noted that a licensed firearm believed to belong to the man was also discovered inside the motor vehicle.
The superintendent said a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of death of the individuals.
On Tuesday, sections of the island experienced heavy rain and flooding due to the passage of Tropical Storm Rafael .
It is believed that the couple attempted to cross a flooded roadway in the pickup truck and were swept away by flood waters.
Their bodies were retrieved today in a joint operation involving members of the Jamaica Defence Force, fire brigade and the police.
