Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a tourist at a beach in Negril, Westmoreland, yesterday.

She is 73-year-old Deniece Blanton of California in the United States.

Reports from the Westmoreland police are that on Sunday afternoon, Blanton along with her partner went for a swim.

She is reported to have gotten into difficulties and went underwater.

She was taken from the water and paramedics reportedly attempted to resuscitate her.

However, those efforts proved futile.

Blanton was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
