Police intensify efforts to eradicate lottery scamming in Manchester; 5 people charged, nearly $2M in cash seized in major operation
Residents in Manchester are being urged to support the police, as efforts intensify to eradicate lottery scamming in the parish.
The latest anti-scamming operation was conducted on Wednesday, in areas including Decarteret Road, Red Berry District and the old Porus District.
The 14-hour operation, executed by members of the police’s Anti-Lottery Scam Unit and Financial Crimes Investigation Division, led to the arrests of seven people, the seizure of more than $1.8 million in cash and nine motor vehicles.
Of those arrested, five have been charged with breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Conversion Special Provisions) and the Dangerous Drugs Acts.
Three of the individuals are of a Decarteret Road address.
Charged with Possession of Ganja and Dealing in Ganja are 45-year-old Kesbert Turner and 25-year-old Victoria Smith. 34-year-old Tyrone Campbell is charged with Possession of Access Device.
The other two persons are 33-year-old Ashoni Shaw of Red Berry District in Porus and 21-year-old Omelio Brown of Knockpatrick. They have been charged with Possession of Identity Information and Possession of Access Device.
Head of the police’s Specialised Investigation Branch, Senior Superintendent Christopher Brown, said the investigation is ongoing.
He lauded the efforts of the team and urged residents to collaborate with lawmen to ensure the safety of the parish.
