Police identify Cherry Tree Lane massacre victims; 6 wounded persons remain in hospital
The 8 people killed in last evening’s shooting incident in Cherry Tree Lane, May Pen Clarendon, have been identified.
Dead are: 7 year old Aiden Bartley,
* 27-year-old cosmetologist Kavel Daley
* 50-year-old construction worker Lawrence Francis
* 20-year-old cashier Diamond Bennett
* 57-year-old butcher Errol Stewart otherwise called ‘Wagga’
* 32-year-old Jermaine Boothe otherwise called ‘Blacks’,
* Courtney Messam otherwise called ‘Dummbie’
* and a woman known only as Margaret
Reports from the May Pen Police are that the massacre unfolded at about 8:45 p.m, when men travelling in a white Toyota Axio motor car drove up to a birthday celebration in the community.
Three men armed with handguns and a rifle alighted from the vehicle and opened gunfire at the group before escaping in the waiting motor car.
When the shootings subsided several persons were discovered with gunshot wounds.
They were taken to hospital where seven people were pronounced dead and the others admitted for treatment.
Police say the gun men drove to another section of the community where two armed men opened gunfire on another gathering.
When that shooting subsided, Stewart was found with gunshot wounds.
He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Of the 9 people who were hospitalized following the incident, 6 are in stable condition, while 3 have been discharged.
