Police High Command & INDECOM probing scuffle involving off-duty officers and influencers at a party this weekend
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into a scuffle at an entertainment event at the weekend. The incident allegedly involved off-duty members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and several social media influencers.
The police high command gave an update on the incident in a statement this afternoon.
It said it is aware of the video circulating on social media and that upon learning of the incident, it immediately launched an internal investigation through its Inspectorate Professional Standards Oversight Bureau (I-PROB) to determine the facts, including whether any policy was breached.
The high command said the matter has become the subject of an independent investigation by INDECOM, which is responsible for investigating allegations of police misconduct.
In keeping with established procedures, the JCF has handed over all relevant information to INDECOM and will fully cooperate with their investigation.
The high command noted that it takes the allegations seriously and reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability.
It sought to clarify that the JCF permits members to engage in private service, commonly referred to as “extra work,” under strict guidelines.
The high command said these guidelines regulate how officers may engage in private service while ensuring their primary responsibilities to the force and the public are not compromised.
It noted that private service arrangements must adhere to established rules regarding eligibility, prohibited activities, and operational standards.
The police high command said any misconduct or breach of policy is treated with the utmost seriousness.
It assured the public that any member found in breach of JCF policies, or the law will be held accountable.
