Police Federation urges cops to remain vigilant while on/off duty following recent murder of colleagues in St Andrew
A call is being made for police officers to remain vigilant while on or off duty and to use all necessary means to protect themselves.
The appeal comes from Acting Chairman of the Police Federation, Constable Koy Marriott.
It follows the murder of two lawmen along Waltham Park Road in St. Andrew on Thursday.
Dead are Constables, 30-year-old Charles Stewart and 32-year-old Jemarey Gordon.
Constable Stewart was attached to the Spanish Town Police, and Gordon was from the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch.
Speaking with IRIE FM News, Constable Marriott noted that the incident has brought more tragedy to an already grief-stricken police force.
The Acting Chairman said the murders are a reminder of the dangerous and hostile environment in which officers serve daily.
He emphasized that the federation stands ready to support every officer who must defend themselves against criminals who show no hesitation to kill or injure.
In the meantime, Constable Marriott is also calling for Cardell Insang to turn himself in to the police.
Insang is one of three men listed as wanted in relation to the killings.
The prime suspect, Macarius Munroe, otherwise called “Macky” was the first to surrender to lawmen Friday afternoon.
Later that evening, the second suspect – Junior Brown – reportedly turned himself in to the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch.
Constable Marriott said those responsible must face the full weight of the law.
He said psycho-social support is still being provided to the families and colleagues of the the slain police officers.
