The People’s National Party (PNP) Women’s Movement has called for immediate psycho-social support to be provided to the family of 10-year-old Shani Coke and the wider Troy community.

The call came following Tuesday’s brutal rape and murder of the child and the fatal mob attack on the suspected killer.

In a statement yesterday, the PNP Women’s Movement described Shani’s murder as gruesome and barbaric.

The movement extended condolences to her parents, family and friends, noting that the loss was unimaginable.

Vice President of the movement with responsibility for Trelawny, Shaneen Roberts said Jamaicans must stand with Shani’s family and the people of Trelawny in this difficult time.

Meanwhile, the movement said it was unfortunate that the community resorted to jungle justice in response to the murder.

It said the country should ensure justice swiftly prevails without citizens having to take matters into their own hands.

Additionally, the movement said the country needs to examine and strengthen its resolve to create safe communities for children.
