PNP to protest against appointment of Dennis Chung as FID’s CTD
The Opposition People’s National Party will be staging a peaceful protest against the appointment of Dennis Chung as the Chief Technical Director of the Financial Investigations Division, FID, tomorrow.
The protest will begin at 9 am in Heroes Circle Kingston.
It comes after the PNP issued a 72 hour ultimatum to the government on Thursday to rescind Mr. Chung’s appointment which is set to take effect tomorrow.
The PNP said the appointment is a conflict of interest, as Mr. Chung has made public pronouncements on cases which are being investigated by the FID, including one relating to the statutory declarations of Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness.
The PNP has threatened action if the appointment is not rescinded.
However, the government says it stands firmly behind Mr. Chung’s selection on the basis that due process was observed.
In a statement today, PNP President, Mark Golding said party members will be taking to the streets to demand good governance and institutional integrity.
