PNP says its issues with the health sector do not lie with public servants

The People’s National Party (PNP) has sought to clarify that its issues surrounding the Health Sector do not lie with public servants. The clarification follows concerns raised about calls from the party for several civil servants to resign.

The PNP had said the boards of two regional health authorities, Permanent Secretary Dunstan Bryan and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jacqueline Bisasor-McKenzie should resign.

In response, at least three labour unions urged the opposition to exercise restraint when tackling issues involving civil servants and to respect the non-partisan nature of public service.

In a follow-up statement, PNP General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell stressed that the party stands resolutely with civil servants and healthcare workers.

He added that someone must be held accountable for the alleged mismanagement within the Health Ministry.

In recent days, the PNP has raised a myriad of issues surrounding the health sector, including the unavailability of ventilators and lack of intensive care spaces.
