The Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) is criticizing the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP’s) decision to reinstate George Wright.
According to President of the PNP Women’s Movement, Patricia Duncan Sutherland, the decision highlights the normalization of domestic abuse in the country.
Mr. Wright resigned in 2021, following allegations of domestic abuse and became an independent Member of Parliament.
He has not confirmed or denied the allegations.
Speaking at a press conference this morning, Ms. Sutherland argued that this move sends a troubling message.
Meanwhile, PNP Chairwoman Dr. Angela Brown Burke criticized the lack of accountability in the JLP’s decision, calling for a public apology from Mr. Wright.
