PNP dismisses suggestions that Tuesday’s shooting incident in the Kingston Central constituency was politically motivated
The People’s National Party has dismissed suggestions that Tuesday’s shooting incident in the Kingston Central constituency was politically motivated.
The Party says its information indicates, that the incident arose from ongoing gang conflict, rather than political targeting.
Reports are that shots were fired in the direction of Member of Parliament Donovan Williams, and his campaign team on Tuesday night.
They were carrying out campaigning activities.
No one was hurt.
General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell says, the Party rejects any attempt to falsely frame this incident as a politically targeted attack.
The PNP has condemned the incident emphasizing, that violence of any kind has no place in national life especially during a period of political activity.
Dr. Campbell has called on the authorities to act swiftly to restore calm, ensure justice is served, and implement real interventions to support the affected communities.
Earlier the Jamaica Labour Party, strongly condemned the attack on Mr. Williams and his team and urged the police to leave no stone unturned, in bringing to justice the perpetrators.
The Party said a high level police investigation is underway into the incident.
