PNP demands release of Dunn’s River water quality data, calls for independent probe
The Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) is urging the government to publicly release all water quality data from Dunn’s River in St. Ann and surrounding areas.
This, after the Public Health Department revealed at the recent meeting of the St. Ann Municipal Corporation, that Dunn’s River has failed to meet recreational water quality standards due to elevated total and fecal coliform levels.
Total and fecal coliforms are types of bacteria.
In a statement yesterday, Opposition Spokesperson on Information and Public Communication Nekeisha Burchell called for an independent investigation to be launched into the cause of the contamination and how the matter was handled.
She also accused the government of not being transparent on the matter.
Ms. Burchell warned that this could jeopardize Jamaica’s tourism brand.
