PNP councillors in Clarendon join call for the establishment of a National School Bus System
Leader of the People’s National Party Caucus in the Clarendon Municipal Corporation, Scean Barnswell, has joined the call from the National Parent-Teachers Association of Jamaica (NPTAJ) for the establishment of a national school bus system.
The NPTAJ made the call following Monday’s deadly crash along the Bustamante Highway in Clarendon.
Lennon High School students, 12-year-old Richard Tulloh and 16-year-old Jody-Ann Lodge were killed in the crash.
Eight other students were injured, three of them seriously.
Expressing sadness at the incident, Mr. Barnswell said the Rural Safe School Bus Programme, which was implemented in 2015, should be reintroduced to prevent further loss of lives on the nation’s roads.
Following the crash, Transport Minister Daryl Vaz stated that a proposal for the operation of rural transportation for students has been completed by his ministry and will be presented to Cabinet next Monday.
