PNP calls for the development of a social media protocol that will regulate how Government Ministers use social media platforms
People’s National Party (PNP) caretaker candidate for St. Catherine East Central, Raymond Pryce says the government needs to develop a social media protocol that regulates how Ministers of government utilize social media platforms to update the public about their official work.
His comment follows the posting of controversial images to the social media account of State Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Alando Terrelonge.
The images showed portraits of 2 former PNP Prime Ministers blocked out with the Jamaican flag emoji.
This resulted in criticism from the public and the PNP Youth Organization which described the situation as disrespectful.
In a subsequent post on X, Mr. Terrelonge shared a photograph of himself and former PNP Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, and noted that the initial posts are regretted, and do not reflect his approach.
But responding to the incident, Mr. Pryce said Mr. Terrelonge should apologize to the public.
Noting that the Minister blamed a social media team member for the posts, he said Mr. Terrelonge should take responsibility for the incident.
Mr. Pryce will go up against Mr. Terrelonge, in the next general election.
