PM says don’t be fazed by PNP’s opposition to Rural School Bus Programme

Leader of the governing Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has urged citizens not to be discouraged or distracted by the People’s National Party (PNP) opposing views on the Rural School Bus Programme.

The programme is being implemented by the Ministry of Transport in collaboration with the Education Ministry.

Under phase one, the Government is procuring 110 buses to serve 100 routes across 258 rural schools, benefiting approximately 328,000 students.

The first 25 buses arrived last month, with the remainder expected before the new school year, which begins in September.

However, the PNP has claimed that its transportation plan is better.

Addressing the matter in Old Harbour last night, Dr. Holness said he was not surprised by the PNP’s actions, as the Party opposed other initiatives which were introduced in the past.
