PM Holness urges JLP members to protest against demonstrations by PNP over Dennis Chung’s FID appointment

Leader of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has urged party members to protest against demonstrations by the People’s National Party (PNP) over the appointment of Dennis Chung to the Financial Investigations Division (FID).

Dr. Holness gave the directive at the JLP’s St. James West Central Constituency Conference yesterday.

It followed the PNP’s announcement that its members will be taking to Heroes Circle in Kingston this morning to express disapproval with Mr. Chung assuming the role of FID’s Chief Technical Director effective today.

Last Thursday, the PNP gave the Government a 72-hour ultimatum to rescind Mr. Chung’s appointment.

The PNP said the appointment is a conflict of interest, as Mr. Chung has made public pronouncements on cases which are being investigated by the FID, including one relating to the statutory declarations of Dr. Holness.

The Government says it stands firmly behind Mr. Chung’s selection, but the PNP continues to question it and has vowed to take action if the decision is not reversed.

Speaking to party supporters in St. James yesterday, Dr. Holness said the JLP will not be bullied.

He urged party supporters to counter the PNP’s protests wherever they are.
