PM Holness says history has shown that the JLP is better at managing Jamaica’s economy than the Opposition
Prime Minister Andrew Holness says history has shown that the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) is better at managing the country’s economy than the Opposition People’s National Party (PNP).
Speaking at a Jamaica Labour Party meeting in North West St. Ann last evening the Prime Minister compared the rate of inflation when both parties were in power.
According to the Prime Minister, when the JLP was in power from 1980 to 1989 the rate of inflation stood at 13.5%.
He said when the PNP took over from 1989 to 2007, inflation rose to 18.5%.
Mr. Holness said prior to that when the JLP was in charge from 1962 to 1972, inflation stood at 4.7%.
He said when the PNP took over from 1972 to 1980, the rate of inflation almost doubled.
He said today his government has brought down inflation to an average of about 5%.
He said those statistics show why voters should trust the JLP with the country’s finances.
